Is Shutterbug the right next step?

For Kids Who Are Curious, Creative, and Ready to Learn More Than Auto Mode.

Shutterbug Foundations is a great fit for kids who love taking pictures and want to understand how to make them even better. Students do not need to be experts before they begin. They just need curiosity, a willingness to try, and a camera they are ready to learn with.

Foundations may be a great fit if your child:

  • Loves taking photos of people, pets, nature, or everyday life

  • Wants to learn how their camera really works

  • Is ready to build confidence using a DSLR or mirrorless camera

  • Enjoys hands-on creative projects

  • Would benefit from a supportive small-group environment

  • Has completed The Seeing Experience or is ready for a deeper next step

What Students Learn in Foundations

Each class helps students build practical camera skills while developing the confidence to make creative choices on purpose.

Creative Storytelling

Editing Basics

Students are introduced to simple editing choices that enhance their images while keeping their work natural and personal.

What a Typical Class Looks Like

Every class is designed to feel encouraging, hands-on, and easy to follow — even for students who are completely new to photography.

Step 1 - Learn It

Students are introduced to one clear photography concept through simple examples, visual demonstrations, and real camera language they can understand.

Step 2 - Try It

Students practice the skill using their own cameras through guided activities, games, prompts, or photo challenges.

Step 3 - Create It

Students put the skill into action by taking photos, experimenting with ideas, and seeing what changes when they make intentional choices.

Step 4 - Share It

Students review their work, celebrate what went well, ask questions, and learn from one another in a supportive environment.

What Parents
Can Expect

WHY FOUNDATIONS MATTERS

Confidence Behind the Camera

When kids learn photography, they are learning more than settings and buttons. They are learning to notice details, make decisions, express themselves, solve problems, and feel proud of what they create.

Shutterbug Foundations gives students room to explore, make mistakes, ask questions, and grow into more confident young creatives.

Why Parents Love It

This was a positive experience for my 10-year-old daughter. She came home understanding new terminology, different types of photography, and how to operate her camera. She radiated excitement and was proud to show off her new skills. I'd recommend this photography camp to anyone who has a child interested in photography.

~ Brittany, mom of Foundations student

My 10-year-old enjoyed this camp very much! He was excited to go every day. Ms. Kristen is very friendly and good with the kids. My son felt that the "class time" was interesting and helped him understand how to complete the tasks when it was time to take pictures using the skill(s) covered in the lesson. We are hoping for a level 2 sometime in the future! I am thankful that Ms. Kristen has offered this unique camp and is willing to share her knowledge with youth. I certainly recommend the Shutterbug Photography Camp for Kids (Now Shutterbug Foundations) by Kristen Rachel Photography if your child has any interest in photography.
